Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship Claims Inaugural Tour Truck Award

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, conducted annually at The Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course, was awarded with the Tour’s inaugural Truck Award at the PGA TOUR’s Tournament Meetings on Wednesday, December 2 in Miami, Fla.

“On behalf of the Tour, I am delighted to congratulate the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship on winning the 2015 Truck Award,” said Tour President Bill Calfee. “The ‘Truck’ is the veritable command station at all of our events, with operations and volunteer efforts all stemming from the well-traveled 18-wheeler. Kip and his team are to be commended for putting forth one of the Tour’s most well-run tournaments.”

The Truck, which is emblazoned with the Tour logo and the faces of Tour alums, is not only the centralized operation center for tournaments, but is also a familiar gathering spot each night during tournament week.

Countless players have spent time in the Truck, socializing with volunteers and the operations staff to further cement the Tour as a rare sports arena in which fans can interact with the game’s up-and-coming stars.

Each week, after finishing his trophy presentation and media duties, the tournament champion makes his way to the Truck to sign the large white cooler, which serves as an iconic meeting spot from tournament to tournament on the Tour. As winner of the inaugural Truck Award, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship was presented with the 2015 cooler, featuring signatures from every winner this past season.

From day one, Tournament Director Kip McBride and his team have put forth a streamlined volunteer effort to help one of the most pivotal events during the Tour Finals run smoothly from start to finish. By incorporating not only those involved with The Ohio State University, but also the community of Columbus, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship has secured a dedicated support group from which to launch one of the Tour’s most successful events each year.

“We are excited and honored to receive the inaugural Truck Award,” said McBride. “This award justly symbolizes the dedication and support of the 600 plus volunteers that work countless hours to help make the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship a premier stop on the Tour and enable the tournament to donate valuable funds in support of the pediatric cancer program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.”

The 2016 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship will return to Ohio State’s Scarlet Course on September 19-25.
